Just like viewing an Instagram story, summer has flew by and many parents have felt the crush of the September back-to-school rush and all that comes with it. From last-minute shopping trips and transportation concerns to the weight of new expectations, this annual season brings both excitement and challenges.
News On The Go Now’s Nakita Pollard had the opportunity to speak with several parents about their experiences preparing for the upcoming school year, and their responses were varied. While traffic is often one of the biggest hallmarks of the back-to-school season, for many parents, the real issue lies in the cost.
Akira, parent and president of the P.T.A at The Blackman and Gollop primary school, shared that she began preparing at the end of the last school term. This early start made her process not only easy but stress-free. She also highlighted a community-driven approach, where some parents pooled resources by creating a collective shopping list. One parent would then handle all the school shopping on behalf of the group, saving everyone time and effort.
Nique parent of one admitted she expected the process to be more hectic. Instead, she found it surprisingly manageable, though it did require her to run a few extra errands.
For Delle, a low-income parent, the experience was much harder. She explained that without financial assistance, the back-to-school season would have been overwhelming. Even with help, the process remained expensive and stressful.
These parent reviews highlight the range of concerns parents face during this time of year—whether it’s financial strain, logistical challenges, or simply meeting expectations for a seamless transition into the school term. What’s clear is that while back-to-school anticipation is a shared experience, every parent’s journey is unique.
