On May 16, 2026 the life and skating legacy of Michael Layne, affectionately known as “Mykey Moda”, was celebrated with verbal tributes and skating in his honor. All wheels were welcomed to the all white affair held at Kooyman car park, Christ Church for the beloved member of the skating community and old scholar of the Christ Church Foundation School – graduate of the class of 1984.
The shock continues to be navigated by the Layne family and members of the Skate fraternity with whom Mikey had a very close relationship. The “School of Skate-Aholics”, as they refer to themselves, publicly reflected across social media channels on Mikey’s love for the skating community; how he gave of his expertise, money, and time, adding that Mikey was a member that persons could talk to at any time.
Even in moments of sorrow, inspiration emerges as a beacon of light as friends, colleagues, skaters, and family members gather in remembrance of Michael Layne.
