Mercedes, one of the island’s most popular female comedians, sat down with News on the Go Now to discuss her journey as an online sensation and actress, as well as the experiences that have shaped her creative identity.
Her journey in comedy began at St. Michael Secondary School, where she discovered her talent for theatre and her ability to bring genuine laughter to those around her. That experience became an important part of her self-discovery, helping her understand who she is and the impact she can have on others.

Mercedes shared why being vocal about her pansexuality is important to her, particularly as she challenges societal expectations of who she is supposed to be. She reflected on how being open about her sexuality requires her to remain mindful in certain spaces, making it even more important for her to express her identity freely within her online community.
Some of her most cherished interactions with viewers, she recalled, have been moments when members of the queer community expressed their appreciation for her openness and representation.
“A part of me living is expressing my truth, being authentic, allowing others to be heard and seen, but also challenging people to think beyond what they already know and believe.”
Mercedes also delved into her creative process, explaining that she gravitates towards content that allows her to incorporate a cultural element or something that reflects her personality. For her, creating meaningful content is more important than simply jumping on the latest trend. She emphasised the importance of establishing a genuine connection with what she creates rather than following what is popular.
Continuing to explore her creative journey, Mercedes hopes to return to the stage through theatrical productions. She is also preparing to share another facet of her artistry with her online community through her upcoming debut poetry book, which explores relationships, trauma and other relatable aspects of life.
