The Road Less Travelled: A New Lane for Sweetlyfe Up CLlose
For years, Sweetlyfe’s days were spent navigating the competitive landscape of the automotive industry. The hum of car engines was his daily soundtrack, and closing deals was his rhythm. But beneath the surface, a different kind of beat was pulsing – the irresistible, infectious energy of soca music.
When asked where people might recognize him from, Sweetlyfe’s answer painted a picture of a diverse musical past. “If you know me, you probably know me from playing drums at church. That’s where the whole musician thing would have been born from,” he shared. He then listed his involvement in a cadet drum band, the school band “Electric” with guys from Kamir, Dappa, and Randy, and later forming “High Grade” with Teacher Christian and Superstar Pressure. It was after these musical ventures that he delved into business. “Then I would have gone into my business selling vehicles that the sweet life comes from,” he confirmed. This business, he revealed, was “a very jealous business with phone always ringing, always email to respond to, always an invoice to do, always a customer to be with. So in the active, real, hectic part of my business development, I pretty much took a backseat to the music thing.”
Sweetlyfe emphasized that this journey has been “a long time coming. A lot of behind-the-scenes things, but you know, it’s time to come from behind the scenes and come up front and see if the response is good.” This year, as Crop Over approaches, Sweetlyfe has decisively changed lanes, dedicating himself entirely to his musical aspirations. His debut soca track, “Transform,” is not just a song; it’s an anthem for anyone who has ever dared to dream big and pivot towards their true calling.
Transform“: An Electrifying Soca Song for Crop Over
“Transform” is more than just a catchy tune; it’s a powerful statement of self-discovery and renewal. The track, with its pulsating rhythms and uplifting lyrics, encapsulates Sweetlyfe’s personal metamorphosis. “I wanted a song that got people to move naturally without telling them put your hand right or bring a hand right, one of them songs,” he explained to Selecta Paul. He also revealed the inspiration behind the track, noting, “I found that Crop Over was getting a little too sweet, as in everything was raga. All right, too too much groovy, too too groovy.” Having heard feedback from tourists who found the Crop Over road jump “boring” compared to other carnivals, he saw a gap.
The early buzz around “Transform” suggests that Sweetlyfe has struck a chord with the Crop Over audience. Its energetic melody and inspiring message are already making it a staple on playlists, hinting at a promising presence for the artist. As Sweetlyfe enthusiastically puts it, “We going to transform! I go dance and everything for people to do is enough instructions, enough energy! So if you know that you ain’t fit, gym time now and we get ready cuz we transforming all of Jumping up and don’t be mad and transform into a mad man!”
It’s Never Too Late: A Message of Inspiration
Sweetlyfe’s story is a powerful reminder that age and past professions are no barriers to pursuing one’s true passion. His courage to leave a stable career for the uncertainties of the music industry is inspiring. Sweetlyfe also revealed that the dummy track for “Transform” was laid down in 2019, but timing and the exponential growth of his car sales business kept him busy. “This is another chapter that I always wanted to embark on, but you know, timing is everything.”
He expressed no surprise from his friends and family, only support. “Everybody is really supportive. Nobody is surprised […]” he chuckled. He credits having “an ear for hits,” a skill that now places “a lot of pressure” on him as he steps into the spotlight. As Crop Over 2025 gears up for what promises to be an unforgettable season, Sweetlyfe’s “Transform” is poised to be a breakout hit, resonating with festival-goers and dream-chasers alike. His dedication, combined with the raw energy of his music, makes him an artist to watch this season. As Sweetlyfe eloquently states, “If there’s one message I want people to take from my journey and from ‘Transform,’ it’s that it’s never too late. Don’t let fear hold you back from doing what you love. Life is about growth, about constantly evolving and transforming.”
