BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS – A new piano book, “Caribbean Folk Songs for Piano,” is set to launch this month during Carifesta XV, marking a significant milestone for the PROJECT Music Books for Piano Education. The extensive 70-page collection written by author and musician Liesbeth Peroti is a collaboration between Caribbean Sheet Music Publishing and Robert Gibson of Passionate Words Editing Services in Barbados, and to make the rich musical heritage of the Caribbean accessible to pianists of all skill levels.

The book features vibrant folk classics from the French, English, Dutch, and Spanish-speaking Caribbean, arranged for both beginner and advanced players. It includes a diverse range of rhythmic and melodic material from styles such as Calypso, Soca, Kaseko, Big Drum, Bolero, Mento, Tumba, Waltz, and Kawina. The collection also includes a foreword by renowned Trinidadian pianist and composer Dr. Roselyn Ward, along with some original compositions.
“Caribbean Folk Songs for Piano” is designed to be more than just a musical guide; it is a tool for cultural education and identity within the Caribbean community. The sheet music will also be available online for easy access.
The book will be available for purchase during Carifesta in Barbados and on Amazon.com. For a preview, interested readers can visit the “Caribbean Folk Songs for Piano” channel on YouTube.
