Today at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Deacon’s Road, St. Michael, over 30 young girls aged 10 to 16 years of age were taught makeup application techniques; a valuable skill set suitable for their personal use or a potential business venture.
Entrepreneur, professional makeup artist, and founder of The Makeup Academy, Sapphire Moore, hosted this makeup class free of cost to young girls to give them exposure and introductory training in an area most young girls are curious to explore.
While learning practical skills, one of the lessons presented to the young minds, as recalled by twelve year old Dayanari Alleyne, is that “makeup can be used to enhance beauty and should not be used to cover up.”
Moore, who proudly shared that another session will be held during the upcoming Christmas vacation, shared the value and impact of Little Beauties: “It’s necessary for children to learn how to be hands-on because although schooling is important, not everyone is academically inclined. Whereas nurturing those who are gifted with their hands allows them to picture a life of success outside of academia.”
Professional makeup artist and co-instructor for the session, Candace Delpeche, on the response of the participants: “There would be ones that would take certain aspects of it more serious, some may be focused more on techniques for doing the eyebrows or lashes and use those developed skills to form their own business or add to their services.”
Thanks to the support of the YWCA, Too Sweet The Candy Shop, The Cake Palace, and partners, the Little Beauties free makeup class was a success.
