A Back to School Giveback program “Pack For Progress, Together We Learn” was launched in the St. Michael Central constituency by its representative, Member of Parliament, Tyra Trotman on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The program’s purpose is to assist vulnerable members within the community with school supplies. Stationery, school bags, and art supplies were among the items distributed.
Partners who supported this initiative include Affluent Brunch, founded by Akhnaten Burrowes and Dream Team Entertainment. This growing initiative which had an initial target of 50 children, successfully impacted the lives of over 80 children in the St. Michael Central constituency.
The initiative, originally started by Attorney-At- Law Trotman, delivered stationery and school bags to some children in the community that were in extreme need prior to her appointment as the Member of Parliament for the constituency.
“Education is a great equalizer. No matter where you come from, whether the heights or the hood, once you get a strong background in education, you can really liberate yourself. It creates numerous opportunities for young people, and it is something I believe strongly in, being someone who benefited from free education. It is something we as Barbadians should pride ourselves in.”
Sponsor Akhnaten gave advice to students entering secondary school: “Be bold, be confident, put your best foot forward and do what makes you happy. Make sure that you love what you do and anything that you do, do it with purpose and do it with passion.”
Representative of Dream Team Entertainment, Keisha Thorne: “We pride ourselves in social responsibility. We try to make sure that we are not leaving out our people.” Speaking to the future growth of the initiative, Thorne passionately expressed the belief that no child should be left out, especially on the first day of school when everyone wants to put forward their best.
“Pack For Progress, Together We Learn” continues to accept donations mere days away from the opening of the new school year commencing September 1, 2026, as the team strives to make an impact on the lives of the community’s vulnerable.
